Plane Makes Emergency Landing When Pilot Dies in Toilet

As reported by The Sun, Friday (08/17/2023) the pilot of the Chilean airline, LATAM was found dead in the toilet of the plane while flying from Miami to Chile on Monday. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Panama City.
Provisional Suspicion, Pilot Dies of Heart Attack
Allegedly, the pilot died of a heart attack in the plane's lavatory. The pilot was identified as 56-year-old Iván Andaur, who has 25 years of flying experience.
"The LATAM Group is deeply saddened by these events and uses this opportunity to express our most sincere condolences to the families of our employees. We are grateful for his 25 years of service to LATAM, distinguished by his dedication, professionalism, and enthusiasm," the airline said in a statement.

The plane, with three pilots including Andaur, landed early Tuesday at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City. Emergency services workers attempted to provide medical assistance to Andaur, but he was pronounced dead at the airport.
A passenger, who did not want to be named, said that after 40 minutes of flying, the co-pilot asked the passenger and sought a doctor. Also, flight attendants ask passengers if anyone has any items that are used for insulin-dependent people.
"They told us that we were going to land because the pilot felt sick and when we arrived they asked us to evacuate the plane as the situation worsened," she said.
The plane spent about 30 minutes at the gate before the airline announced the flight had been canceled. Passengers were booked into local hotels and flights resumed on Tuesday afternoon.
