Travel News Letter: Assistance and Rates for Climbing Mount Semeru
In the latest regulation, climbing a mountain as high as 3,676 meters above sea level requires a companion.
According to the Public Relations Institution of the TNBTS Center, Endrip Wahyutama said that every group of Mount Semeru climbers is required to use the services of an escort from the Registered Mount Semeru Climbing Companion (PPGST). This companion consists of members of the surrounding community.
According to Endrip, "This companion has undergone technical guidance from TNBTS to be responsible and ensure that all climbers carry out the SOPs imposed by TNBTS."
The fee for the escort service is entirely the responsibility of PPGST (Registered Mount Semeru Climbing Companion). Information on the tariff can be accessed through the upload on the PPGST Instagram account, @ppgst_tnbts.
The assistance fee is outside of the cost of Mount Semeru climbing tickets. The companion tariff is fully accepted and managed by PPGST and nothing goes into the State treasury.
The role of PPGST is to ensure comfort and safety and supervise climbers so that they do not violate the rules during the climb. PPGST in this case is not a guide or porter.
Climbers who have used open trip, guide, and porter services are still required to use PPGST services that have been registered with TNBTS. The PPGST container is in the form of a group that is under the guidance or supervision of TNBTS.
