Maybe you rarely hear the name of this one place. But believe me, this place is very beautiful, even though I was looking for various references about Ketep Pass, a hill between Merapi and Merbabu.

When the holiday season arrives, you can come to Indonesia, and determine Yogyakarta as your tourist and traveling destination. One of the beautiful places that can be an option is Ketep Pass, which is on the route of Semarang - Yogyakarta and not far from Borobudur Temple.

Why Choose Ketep Pass?

Why is it called Ketep Pass? Because of its location located on a hill in Ketep Village, Sawangan District, Magelang Regency, Central Java Province.

This is special because the location is located between Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu, precisely to the southwest slopes of Mount Merbabu at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level.

This tourist attraction is about 30 kilometers from Magelang City and 35 kilometers from Boyolali City. Its location between the slopes of the two mountains becomes more strategic because from that place we can enjoy the very beautiful natural scenery.

You can see the peaks of Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu, especially if you are lucky to see the awesomeness of lava flows that melt from the top of Merapi Mount at night. The cool air adds to the enjoyment of eyesight when watching the expanse of the verdant forest around it.

Ketep Pass is deliberately intended as a volcanic tourism area. Therefore, this place is equipped with facilities that are loaded with elements of education and information that are presented in a modern and attractive manner.

The Beauty of Ketep Pass

The journey to the Ketep Pass area has brought the atmosphere towards the highlands.

Since turning from the Blabak T-junction, Magelang, the road to Ketep Pass has continued uphill. Coupled with the cool and fresh air sucked into the lungs, it is refreshing.

About 500 meters before arriving at the destination, the climb is getting higher and longer. This makes the driver have to slow down the speed of his vehicle.

When the weather is clear, from the parking lot we can see the two mountain peaks, namely Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu. Even if Mount Merapi is active, we can see puffs of smoke or molten lava sliding down from its peak.

Currently, Ketep Pass is equipped with several supporting facilities such as Volcano Theatre, Volcano Center, Panca Arga Square, restaurants, and viewing stations. Even the development of Bukit Ketep as a tourist spot is also still being carried out today.

In the 50-seat Volcano Theatre mini-cinema building, the audience was given a 30-minute documentary about Mount Merapi, Mount Merbabu, Mount Sumbing, and Mount Sindoro as well as various major eruptions that have occurred, including the eruption of Mount Merapi that occurred about a few years ago.

With good image quality and sound system, the audience seems to be taken to the real location. Through this spectacle, participants were invited to know more about the problems surrounding Mount Merapi and also the surrounding natural life.

After seeing this various information, we can relax for a while in the Panca Arga Square or viewing station. This court is a circular open space at the height of Ketep Hill. From this place, the visitors can see freely.

Named "Pelataraan Panca Arga", because from the courtyard visitors can see five large mountains that stand towering in the Central Java region (Panca means five; arga means mountain). The five mountains are Mount Merbabu, Mount Merapi, Mount Sindoro, Mount Sumbing, and Mount Slamet. From the courtyard, Mount Sindoro, Mount Sumbing, and Mount Slamet appear visible from a distance.

Not even just the five mountains. We can also see other smaller mountains such as Mount Telomoyo, Mount Andong, Dieng Plateau, and Menoreh Hills.

Even at night, we can see hot lava slides from Mount Merapi that look reddish from a distance.

It's very interesting. Hopefully the information about "Ketep Pass, a hill between Merapi and Merbabu" is useful and provides its attraction for you so that you can come to Indonesia soon. Welcome and enjoy the beauty of Ketep Pass.
