Mount Semeru hiking trails closed since 2021

Previously, quoted from the Kompas.com page (5/12/2021) the Mount Semeru hiking trail was closed since July 3, 2021.

The closure of this hiking trail was carried out not because of the eruption of Mount Semeru, but because of the policy of Implementing Emergency Community Activity Restrictions in Java and Bali from 3-20 July 2021.

This policy is written in Announcement Letter Number PG.18/T.8.BIDTEK/BIDTEK.1/KSA/7/2021 concerning the Closure of Natural Tourism Objects and Attractions in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Area.

The letter stating the total closure of tourism and climbing activities was signed by the Head of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (BBTNBTS) Novita Kusuma Wardani.

The closure continued due to the increased volcanic activity of Mount Semeru and is still at Level 3 Alert until now. The Semeru hiking trail will only be opened as usual when the status of Mount Semeru has dropped to level 2 or alert.
